1,000 cops for Kinabatangan bypoll
Jauteh also reminded parties and candidates to conduct their campaigns in a professional and orderly manner, while respecting the sensitivities of local communities.
Kota Kinabalu: Almost 1,000 policemen will be deployed in Kinabatangan to ensure security and public order during the by-elections for the Lamag State seat and Kinabatangan parliamentary seat on Jan. 24, 2026.

Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun said 926 police personnel have been assigned of which 837 would be stationed for security control, traffic management and monitoring works during the election period.

The remainder come from the Sabah Police Contingent headquarters (IPK) here.

“They will cover all major election processes of the by-election, namely the nomination day on Jan 10, early voting on Jan 20 and polling day on Jan 24.

“Of the total, 646 police personnel and officers will be assigned duties during nomination day on Jan 10 this Saturday, with additional assistance involving police personnel and officers mobilised from nearby districts, including from IPD Sandakan, Beluran, Lahad Datu and Semporna, as well as deployment of Battalion 15 of the General Operations Force (PGA) in Sandakan,” he said.

He called for full cooperation from all quarters to ensure smooth conduct of the by-elections without any disruptions.

He said Kinabatangan parliamentary constituency, which comprises three state seats namely Kuamut, Sukau and Lamag , is not classified as a hotspot area, adding that there have been no major security issues recorded in previous elections.
