Kota Kinabalu: Two men were jailed seven and five years, respectively, for repeated syabu taking.
Heldy Soubin, 45, and Herwandi Roselane, 46, pleaded guilty separately before Sessions Court Judge Zaini Fishir.
Heldy was jailed seven years and ordered to be given three strokes of the cane after his urine tested positive for syabu at 6.20pm on Sept 3, 2025 at the police station here.
Heldy, who has one previous conviction under Section 39C (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA), was charged under Section 39C(2) of the DDA, which carries a jail term of between seven and 13 years, and whipping, on conviction.
Herwandi was sentenced to five years’ jail plus one stroke of the cane for taking syabu. He has two previous convictions for the offence.
His urine tested positive for syabu at 11.10pm on Oct 4, 2025 at the police station here.
After completing their jail sentence, Heldy and Herwandi were ordered to be placed under police supervision for three years for Heldy and two years for Herwandi.
In mitigation, both of them asked for leniency.
However, Deputy Public Prosecutor Eugenie Meredith Gilbert urged the court to impose a deterrent sentence considering that both Heldy and Herwandi repeated the offence.
