TAWAU: Three men, including two foreigners, were arrested over a rioting case involving a security guard at a car wash premises along Jalan Chong Thien Vun last year.
Tawau District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the suspects comprise a 32-year-old local and two others aged 18 and in their 30s.
“They were arrested at the side of a car wash premises near a supermarket at about noon on Monday by a team from the District Criminal Investigation Division (CID),” he said on Tuesday.
Jasmin said the incident is believed to have occurred on Nov. 6 at about 5.30pm when the 19-year-old victim sent his car to be washed and later requested permission to wash it himself.
However, one of the car wash workers allegedly punched the teenager before two other accomplices joined in the assault, causing the victim to suffer pain.
“Record checks revealed that the local suspect has several previous offences related to public health laws and drug abuse,” he said.
He added that the two foreign suspects have no prior criminal records but are suspected of not possessing valid identification documents and are being investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
All three suspects were detained at the Tawau District Police Headquarters to assist investigations under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting.
Jasmin advised the public to resolve disputes amicably and to channel any information related to criminal activities to the police in the interest of public safety in the district.
