“Initially, I saw a black object with yellow stripes moving in the tree, so I approached it and was shocked to see two snakes.
“Concerned for the safety of the school community, I immediately contacted the Civil Defence Force for assistance in capturing the reptiles,” he said.
Tuaran Civil Defence Force Officer Nur Azierah Alang said a team was dispatched to the location after receiving the report.
“Upon arrival, the team found the reptiles, each measuring 1.5 meteres on the branches of a mango tree nine meters high and proceeded to capture them,” Nur Azierah said.
The operation took about 15 minutes. The snakes weighed nearly two kilograms each after being subdued successfully.
Nur Azierah added that the operation concluded at 2.24pm, after which the reptiles were released into their natural habitat far from residential areas.
The yellow-ringed krait, scientifically known as Bungarus Fasciatus, is characterised by distinct yellow and black bands, a relatively stout body and small head.
Besides being venomous, the species is more active in dark areas or at night.
