Tuaran: At least 700 vehicles kept at a storage facility in Jalan Dungun Marabahai Tambalang 2 here were destroyed in a fire yesteday.

The blaze reportedly started about 1pm in a nearby forest before spreading to the 0.8-hectare storage site.

Tuaran Fire and Rescue Station chief Kurong Ak Beki said nine personnel were dispatched to the scene, supported by two fire engines and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services vehicle.

“The firefighting operation was assisted by two engines and 25 personnel from the Lintas and Kota Kinabalu stations.

“No injuries or fatalities were reported. The fire was brought under control at 3.31pm,” he said, adding that approximately 30 other vehicles at the location were saved.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
