Kota Kinabalu: Residents of Kampung Rampayan Manggatal are calling for the expedited implementation of the Rampayan drainage and river excavation project, or the Rampayan Flood Mitigation Project, as it is believed to be a primary cause of flash floods, along with stagnant water issues that disrupt daily life, especially during the rainy season.

Village representative Gundohing Aris Ramlie said it is time for the Government, including the Sepanggar Member of Parliament, to take decisive action to find the best solution to this ongoing problem.

“The flooding issue in Kampung Rampayan is not new. Every time there is prolonged heavy rain, many homes in this village are inundated by water.

“We, the residents of Kampung Rampayan, have repeatedly requested and pleaded with the Government to expedite the Rampayan drainage and river excavation work, but so far, there has been no significant change.

Kota Kinabalu: KOTA KINABALU: Fiesta Mega Raya (FMR) 2026 is set to be the largest and most prestigious Hari Raya celebration in Sabah, taking place from March 7 to 18, at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), here.
“Promises have been made to improve the situation, yet nothing has changed... we hope this time the Government will seriously help us and not just make empty promises or Tarang Bulan promises,” he said in a social media post.

Aris welcomed the commitment of the Sepanggar Member of Parliament, Datuk Mustapha Sakmud, to address the flooding issues in Kampung Rampayan, one of the areas severely affected by the recent floods.

He said funding for Phase 2 of the Rampayan Flood Mitigation Project has also been announced by the Prime Minister as part of the ongoing medium- and long-term solutions to the flooding issues in the affected area.
