Woman killed, five injured in Lahad Datu collision

LAHAD DATU: A woman was killed and five others injured after a Toyota Fortuner and a Perodua Axia collided head-on along Jalan Silam, near SK Silam here, on Sunday afternoon.

The Fire and Rescue Department said it received an emergency call at 2.29pm and deployed a team from Lahad Datu fire station, with the first engine arriving about 23 minutes later to find one victim trapped in the Fortuner.

The trapped victim was freed and sent to Lahad Datu Hospital, while a 50-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel from the Ministry of Health and handed over to Royal Malaysia Police for further action.

Three women and a male driver sustained minor injuries and were taken to hospital by Health Ministry ambulances, while details of the Axia occupants were not immediately available and firefighters cleared the scene after ensuring no further danger.
