Sabah MCCC urges calm, maturity over racial issues
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Malaysia–China Chamber of Commerce president Datuk Dexter Lau (pic) has urged all sides not to politicise racial issues, saying Sabah’s priority should be mutual understanding among communities and collective efforts to build the state.

Responding to remarks by GRS deputy secretary-general Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, and wider concerns over Chinese representation in the Sabah Cabinet, Lau said the issue should be viewed with maturity, rationality and a forward-looking mindset.

He said MCCC Sabah will submit proposals to State Education, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk James Ratib and Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek to strengthen structured programmes that help non-Chinese youths better understand Chinese culture, history and perspectives.

Lau expressed hope that education and training for non-Chinese assemblymen and community leaders would be enhanced under Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor to improve service delivery to the Chinese community, stressing this was about understanding Sabah’s multicultural reality rather than seeking special treatment.
