Drop in city crimes this year

Kota Kinabalu: City police recorded a five per cent drop in overall crime this year, with total cases declining from 1,156 last year to 1,099, said its chief ACP Kasim Muda.

He said the most notable reduction involved house break-ins, with Luyang recording the biggest drop of 56 cases.

Speaking to reporters during a Christmas road safety and crime prevention programme at Kingfisher on Saturday, Kasim said negligence remained the main factor contributing to house break-ins, motor vehicle thefts and road accidents.

“Most house break-ins happen because of negligence. Doors are not locked properly, gates are left unlocked, vehicles are not locked, and in some cases, house keys or car keys are left inside vehicles,” he said.
