SIPITANG: Six people, including two children, were injured in a two-vehicle collision along Kilometre 29, Jalan Sipitang-Tenom, on Wednesday.
The accident involved a Perodua Bezza and a Proton Iswara which were travelling in the opposite directions.
The victims comprised two men aged 45 and 31, two women aged 36 and 32, as well as an eight-year-old boy and a 10-year-old girl.
Sipitang Fire and Rescue Station Chief Calvin Joe Jeafery said the injured were taken to hospital for treatment.
The Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call at 5.19pm and deployed a team to the scene.
“Upon arrival, the team found a Bezza heading towards Tenom had collided with a Iswara traveling towards Sipitang,” he said.
The Iswara was carrying four passengers, namely a 45-year-old man, a 36-year-old woman and the two children.
Three of these victims, including both children, were assisted out of the vehicle and sent to the hospital by members of the public before the team arrived at the scene.
The Bezza had two occupants, namely the 31-year-old male driver and a 32-year-old female passenger.
Calvin said the rescue team disconnected the battery cables of both vehicles as a safety measure before handing over the scene to police for further investigation.
