This is to strengthen Sabah as a top tourist destination while empowering local artisans, performers, and communities.
He said tourism and culture contribute significantly to economic growth, employment, and community development.
“This allocation shows our commitment to attract tourists, celebrate our heritage, and nurture the creative economy,” he said.
He noted that RM50 million under the 13th Malaysia Plan, will improve tourism infrastructure, including hotels, attractions, transport, and visitor facilities.
“RM35 million will support cultural programmes, festivals, museums and preservation of historical sites,” he said.
Meanwhile, he added that creative industries will receive RM25 million for grants, training, and marketing support for arts, handicrafts, music and film.
“RM20 million is earmarked for marketing campaigns and promotions targeting domestic and international tourists.
“Community engagement will receive RM12 million to train locals in tourism management, hospitality, and creative skills, ensuring economic benefits reach rural and urban communities.
“Eco-tourism and sustainable tourism programmes will receive RM8.3 million to preserve national parks, marine conservation areas, and rural destinations while promoting responsible travel,” he said.
Cross-references to Human Capital and ICT infrastructure highlight that training and digital platforms support tourism operations, online marketing, and creative initiatives.
“Welfare programmes also link to tourism development by engaging local communities, including youth, women, and vulnerable groups, in festivals and cultural activities,” Masidi said.
He emphasised that the 2026 State Budget demonstrates Sabah’s commitment to leveraging tourism, culture, and creativity as engines for sustainable growth, empowering communities, and promoting Sabah’s unique identity.
