PAPAR: A 56-year-old man succumbed to serious injuries after being hit by a car along Km 18, Pan Borneo Highway, here, Friday night.
District Police Chief Supt Heryan Mohd Tahir said the incident occurred at 8.15pm when a four-wheel drive driven by a 25-year-old man was heading towards Kota Kinabalu from Papar.
Due to the dark road condition, the driver failed to notice a man, believed to be crossing the road, and could not brake in time, hitting the pedestrian.
“The impact caused the victim to be thrown off before landing on the road. He was later pronounced dead by Papar Hospital officers at the scene,” he said.
Heryan said the victim was brought to Papar Hospital Forensic Unit for postmortem and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
He reminded motorists to be vigilant, especially in areas that lack sufficient streetlights and accident prone.
