TAWAU: A 23-year-old man was arrested for allegedly threatening to kill his mother when she refused to give him money in an incident at Batu 2 Jalan Apas on Saturday.
The suspect was apprehended in the same village at about 3pm on Sunday. Jasmin said the incident occurred the previous night, around 7.30pm, when the 58-year-old victim, his mother, refused to give him the money he demanded.
“The suspect became enraged, acted aggressively, punched the house wall, and issued death threats, leaving the victim fearful for her safety,” he said on Monday.
The victim reported the incident to the police, prompting a tracking operation. During the arrest, the suspect attempted to flee by jumping into a nearby drain, forcing police to use minimal force.
“We will not compromise with those who make criminal threats, including threats against family members, as such acts endanger public safety,” Jasmin said.
