KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah State Assembly and Malaysian Election Commission (EC) have confirmed the unexpected vacancies of the Lamag State Assembly seat (N.58) and Kinabatangan parliamentary seat (P.187) following the death of incumbent Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin on 5 Dec.
Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Dato’ Dr. Johari Abdul, notified the EC on 8 Dec while the Sabah State Assembly Speaker, Datuk Seri Kadzim M. Yahya, formally notified the EC on 9 Dec.

Under the Federal Constitution (Article 54) and Sabah State Constitution (Article 21), these vacant seats must be filled within 60 days of confirmation.
The EC will hold a special meeting on 16 December 2025, chaired by EC Chairman Dato’ Sri Ramlan Dato’ Harun, to set key by-election dates, including nomination and polling days, voter registration, and other preparations.
A press conference will follow the meeting.
Kadzim also expressed condolences to the family of the late Bung Moktar, praying for his soul to rest in peace.
