Tenom: The implementation of Phase Two of the Sungai Padas Flood Mitigation Project here is expected to boost residents’ confidence in the Government’s long-term efforts to address flooding in the district.
Melalap Assemblyman and Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry, Datuk Jamawi Jaffar, said residents’ concerns must be taken seriously, especially as they are worried the ongoing project could increase water-flow pressure if it is not carried out comprehensively.
He said this when met after a briefing by the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) regarding the project in Kampung Binaie on Friday.
According to him, continuation of the project into Phase Two is crucial to ensure more comprehensive protection, thereby eliminating the long-standing anxiety of residents who have constantly faced recurring flood threats.
