Kuala Lumpur cannot ignore Sabah anymore
Khairy acknowledged that while Sabah’s situation differs from Sarawak’s unified GPS coalition, in the sense that GRS and Warisan are still rivals, the fundamental message remains clear — the people want local parties to be in control of the State’s political direction like in the 1960s and 70s.
Kota Kinabalu: Former federal minister Khairy Jamaluddin said Sabahans sent a clear message through the 17th state election that they want the State to be governed by local-based parties.

“What the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) did in Sarawak, this is the GPS moment for Sabah in which both the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) and Warisan have cut the political umbilical cord,” he said on his podcast, Keluar Sekejap.

“They are sending a message that ‘We will talk to you, but we will talk to you as equals. And you will talk to us as equals’.

“Sabah is saying, ‘We are friends and we can discuss, but we will not follow the beat of any party or leader from Federal,’” he added, pointing out that peninsula politicians must respect this democratic choice.
