KOTA KINABALU: Sarawak will begin exporting 30 megawatts (MW) of electricity to Sabah this month, advancing the goals of the Borneo Power Grid (BPG) and ASEAN Power Grid (APG), reports DayakDaily.
Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi said the move positions Sarawak as a regional energy hub.

“Sarawak has already been exporting approximately 100MW of power to West Kalimantan since 2016, and the upcoming 30MW supply to Sabah will further solidify our role,” he said.
He added that negotiations are ongoing with Brunei for a Power Exchange Agreement, while projects for electricity export to Singapore and Peninsular Malaysia are in the engagement stage with respective government agencies.
Julaihi confirmed that Singapore’s Energy Market Authority granted conditional approval on Oct 17, 2025, clearing the preliminary technical and financial feasibility phase.
“This approval paves the way for the next stages of development,” he said, highlighting Sarawak’s expanding cross-border energy initiatives.
