KOTA KINABALU: The legal team for Noraidah Lamat, mother of Zara Qairina Mahathir, has rejected an NGO’s attempt to halt the ongoing inquest through a Judicial Review, stressing the family never authorised any such action.
They said the inquest will proceed under the Coroner’s Court, adding they have not received the JR application.

The team emphasised the inquest is not delaying justice but has been vital in establishing facts before the juvenile trial begins on Dec 8.
Among clarified issues were Zara’s condition on July 15, the handling of her diaries, the absence of a warden on duty, and a spot-check done on her locker without her present. These findings have been compiled for the Children’s Court.
The team said it will continue monitoring the process to ensure the inquest proceeds professionally and without interference. An NGO had filed the JR on Nov 21.
