PITAS: Efforts to strengthen security in the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (Esszone) moved forward on Thursday as the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) and Esscom conducted a site survey for a proposed maritime post in Kampung Pegasaon Mapan-Mapan.
The survey was carried out to assess safety factors, location suitability and operational needs before the development phase is finalised, said Sabah and Labuan Maritime Director First Admiral (Maritime) Mohd Khairulanuar Abd Majid.
He said follow-up action will be taken if the site meets the operational criteria required for the new maritime post.
Mohd Khairulanuar led the visit alongside senior Esscom officials, with technical input provided by the Land and Survey Department and Pitas District Office.
The proposed post is expected to bolster maritime security in Pitas and nearby waters by curbing cross-border crime, combating smuggling and ensuring operational readiness in Esszone, he added.
