LAHAD DATU: The Segama Barisan Nasional (BN) coordinating committee stressed that Segama seat is BN’s stronghold and not open for negotiation as pictured by Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR).
Segama BN Coordinating committee Secretariat, Firdaus Nuljari said, the notion of Segama being a “negotiable seat” was misleading, stressing that electoral results and political realities demonstrate the constituency’s long-standing support for BN.
Firdaus said, based on official result from the 15th General Election, the Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for Lahad Datu secured 3,640 votes in the Segama area, compared to BN’s strong showing across the parliamentary constituency, where its candidate received 22,740 votes against PH’s 8,289 votes.
“This reflected a clear and consistent pattern of voter confidence in BN’s leadership and local machinery in Segama,” he said, in a statement on Tuesday.
Firdaus in his statement also explained that Segama seat incumbent, Datuk Dr Mohamaddin Ketapi had joined BN prior to the formation of the unity government at the federal level, underscoring that his move was a considered political decision rather than a reactionary one.
He also said that Mohamaddin was never part of Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), countering claims made recently by one of the political secretary to the Prime Minister.
In the meantime, Firdaus emphasizes that the claim of Segama as a seat that is open for negotiation is baseless, noting that BN owns public trust, grassroot support and organized machinery that have been proved by the electoral result.
He added that BN machinery in Segama will remain committed in defending Segama as a legitimate seat of BN, based on the people’s mandate and political facts, not rhetoric or seasonal politics.
