KUALA LUMPUR: Police expect to make an arrest soon in connection with the murder of Taiwanese influencer Hsieh Yu-hsin, who was found dead at a hotel in the city last month.
Kuala Lumpur police chief CP Datuk Fadil Marsus said investigators are reviewing the movements of the victim and Malaysian rapper Namewee, who was the individual last seen with her before her death on October 22.
“We expect to make an arrest soon,” he said today, according to The Star.
He said police are now re-examining all the victim’s movements and those of the identified suspect as part of their investigation.
Earlier today, Fadil confirmed in a statement that the case had been reclassified from a sudden death report to a murder investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
Although the statement did not name the victim, the case is believed to involve Hsieh, who was known online as Iris Hsieh or “Nurse Goddess”.
Fadil said the Taiwanese influencer arrived in Malaysia on October 20 and was scheduled to stay until October 24.
Her death attracted wide attention after reports emerged that she had been working on a video project with Namewee before she was found dead.
Namewee, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, was arrested around the same period and later charged with drug possession and use.
Fadil said the cause of death has yet to be determined, pending post-mortem and toxicology results.
“It is too early to reveal the cause of death. The post mortem and toxicology reports will give us clearer findings later,” he said.
He added that several individuals, including hotel staff, security personnel and others linked to Hsieh’s movements, have had their statements recorded.
“The individual last seen with the victim is considered involved for now, at least to assist in investigations,” he said.
Fadil urged anyone with information related to the case to come forward and assist police in their inquiries.
Yesterday, Hsieh’s manager challenged Wee to clarify matters surrounding her death, insisting that he had never seen her engage in drug use before.
