KUALA LUMPUR: A 50-year-old woman was pronounced dead after condominium security guards allegedly delayed emergency responders from entering the premises for about 45 minutes in an incident that has sparked public concern.
Malaysian philanthropist Kuan Chee Heng, who highlighted the case on his Facebook page, claimed the guards refused entry to medical personnel while waiting for approval from their superiors despite it being a medical emergency.
According to him, by the time access was granted and responders reached the unit, the woman—believed to have suffered a cardiac arrest—had already passed away.
He said the delay pointed to a serious flaw in strict security procedures at some residential buildings, adding that such rigid enforcement could be dangerous during emergencies.
He also noted that many condominiums lack Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs), which are critical in cardiac situations.
Calling for urgent reforms, Kuan urged authorities to require all residential buildings to be equipped with AEDs and for management and security personnel to be properly trained to handle medical and other emergencies swiftly.
