Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Karate Association (SKA) was crowned overall champions in the 10th International Open Karate Championship KL Mayor’s Cup which concluded at the Jaya Shopping Centre in Petaling Jaya on Sunday.
They captured a total of 13 golds, eight silvers and six bronzes to top the medal tally followed by Pahang Sports Council with 10 golds, 10 silvers and 18 bronzes and in third place was Hayashi-Ha Kuala Lumpur with six golds, four silvers and 13 bronzes.
The 10 individual gold medal winners were Bibi Aysha Muhammad Zain (Female Ind Kata Cadet); Shawanda Dania Sharul (Female Junior Ind Kumite -48kg); Muhammad Afiq Hazriq Sedry (Male Ind Kata U14); Nur Ain Humairah Abdul Rahman (Female Ind Kata U14); Adlin Vince Viceroy (Male Ind Kata Cadet); Nur Rasyiqah Fari’ah Razmi (Female Ind Kata Cadet); Danish Rayyan Rajis (Male Ind Kumite Cadet -57kg); Nur Rasyiqah Fari’ah Razmi (Female Ind Kumite Cadet -54kg); Muhammad Syahzrullah Halim (Male Ind Kumite Cadet -52kg); Al Zovainz Zurizal (Male Ind Kumite Cadet -63kg) and the other three came from the team event in the Boys Team Kata (Muhammad Afiq Hazriq Sedry, Muhammad Afiq Almando, Adham Iffathabeeb Azmarul Ardi), Cadet Male Team Kumite – Sabah A (Muhammad Syahzrullah Halim, Al Zovainz Zurizal, Danish Rayyan Rajis) and the Female Team Kata Cadet Junior (Bibi Aysha Muhammad Zain, Nur Rasyiqah Fari’ah Razmi, Shawanda Dania Sharul).
The silvers were delivered by Cimberleigh Francene Christopher (Girls Ind Kata 10-11 years); Cadet Male Team Kumite - Sabah B (Chrisly Shawn Chistoper, Caleb Wong Zu Xuan, Qaish Mokhtar AlBukhary Tsabbit Aqdamana); Girls Team Kumite (Iona Siew Lin Maria Fernandez King, Ivy Catrinaz Zurizal, Nur Ain Humairah Abdul Rahman); Muhammad Afiq Almando (Male Ind Kata U14); Caleb Wong Zi Xuan (Male Ind Kata Cadet); Ivy Catrinaz Binti Zurizal (Female Ind Kumite U14 -47kg); Iona Siew Lin Maria Fernandez King (Female Ind Kumite U14 +52kg); Amirah Syahindah Azlan (Female Ind Kumite +61kg), while the bronze medallists were Nur Hafidzatul Alma Jakaria (Female Ind Kata Senior); Jude Joseph Johannes (Male Senior Kumite -67kg); Danish Rayyan Rajis (Male Ind Kata Cadet); Chrisly Shawn Chistoper (Male Ind Kumite Cadet -52kg); Adlin Vince Viceroy (Male Ind Kumite Cadet -63kg) and Female Team Kumite (Amirah Syahindah Azlan, Nur Rasyiqah Fari’ah Razmi, Shawanda Dania Sharul).
SKA secretary general Julian Chin was delighted with the overall performance of the 21-member squad in the four-day competition.
“We only urged them to give their best against their counterparts, especially those from overseas and to return with the overall title was unexpected and a very good achievement.
“A big thank you to the team manager Tengku Fazlina Tengku Ibrahim, parents, coaches, athletes and other team officials for their hard work and support to make Sabah proud, and hopefully it will motivate the others,” he said.
