Kota Kinabalu: The 16th Kinabalu Club (TKC) Invitational Snooker Championship this year is offering its biggest cash prize money to date with a total of RM12,000.
The largest and longest running snooker tournament in the State organised by TKC is scheduled to be held at its clubhouse from Nov 12-23.
Eighth-time winner Sheldon Senagang , who will try to defend his title is set to face strong challenge from former champions Nealson Low, Jamal Jailani, Teo Kin Vui, Rasid Mambalusan and Frankie Kok.
The champion is set to receive RM5,000 and the challenge trophy. The runner-up will get RM2,300 and the semi-finalists will each receive RM600, RM300 each for the quarterfinalists, while RM150 each for the last 16 achievers.
In addition, a special prize of RM500 is up for grabs for players who achieve the highest break, with an incentive of RM1000 if it is a century break.
Tournament director Dr Brandon Patrick Senegang said the increased amount of prize money also saw an increased number of entries with a total of 92 from all over Sabah confirming their participation.
“The tournament is fully sanctioned by the Malaysia Snooker and Billiards Federation (MSBF).
“I am extremely pleased to welcome such a huge number of participants this year, beating last year’s 76 participants, it bodes well for the future of snooker in Sabah, as we can clearly see more people picking up the sport.
“The Kinabalu Club has traditionally produced Sabah’s best snooker players for decades and I am happy to state that the club will continue to support the growth of snooker in the state,” he said.
Brandon, who is also the only Sabahan snooker referee licensed under the Asian Confederation of Billiard Sports (ACBS) and with a number of international refereeing under his belt called on the public to come to the club and watch the matches starting at 10am daily…subject to change.
