RANAU: Incumbent Karanaan Assemblyman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun called on students in the district to participate in more sports activities like volleyball.
He said volleyball can be made the main sport of choice like football.
“I hope all schools can further popularise volleyball and make it the main choice of students here.
“A tournament like this can further increase interest, sportsmanship, foster friendship and strengthen brotherhood during this event,” he said.
Masidi, who is also Sabah Finance Minister, was officiating the Indoor Volleyball Tournament in conjunction with the Ranau District Central Zone Schools PTA Sports Carnival at the Ranau Sports Complex Hall, Saturday.
The Yang Dipertua (YDP) of PIBG Jalihah Daimin thanked Masidi for sponsoring the carnival.
“It not only promotes a healthy lifestyle, but strengthens the relationship between school staff, parents and the local community,” said Jalihah.
PIBG Lohan team and PIBG SK Lipasu A won the indoor tournament.
PIBG Lohan emerged champion in the men’s category, while the runner-up was the SK Lipasu C Community and the third place went SK Lipasu A Community.
As for the women’s category, the winner was PIBG SK Lipasu A, the runner-up was PIBG Lohan and in third place was PIBG Kundasang.
