KOTA BELUD: Kota Belud MP Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis urged the Federal Government to ensure Sabahans working or residing in peninsula Malaysia are not denied their right to vote in the upcoming 17th Sabah State Election (PRN-17).
She was responding to the Election Commission’s (EC) recent statement that there will be no implementation of postal voting for Sabah voters in peninsula.
Isnaraissah said she had previously raised the issue with the EC, stressing the need for Sabahans in the peninsula to be allowed to vote without having to return home.
Following the EC’s announcement, she proposed two measures for the Federal Government to consider in order to facilitate Sabahans’ participation in the election process.
“Firstly, I urge the Federal Government to grant one day unrecorded leave to Sabahans working in Peninsular Malaysia so they can return home to vote,” she said.
“Secondly, I call on the Government, particularly the Transport Ministry, to ensure airfares from the peninsula to Sabah are controlled and reduced to reasonable and affordable rates.”
Isnaraissah said both proposals deserve serious and fair consideration to uphold the democratic rights of Sabahans and strengthen Malaysia’s democratic process.
