PUTATAN: Sabah Bumiputera Chamber of Commerce (SBCC) President Datuk Hasnol Ayub has pledged continued cooperation with non-governmental organisations to support the local community in Putatan.
Speaking at the Keramat Charity Outreach Programme organised in collaboration with the Sabah Children of Malaysia Association (Pams) here on Friday, Hasnol said such initiatives reflect the chamber’s ongoing commitment to social responsibility and community empowerment.
He noted that the SBCC, which has 13 branches across Sabah including in rural districts, is not a new organisation.
“The chamber was established in 1972 during the time of Tan Sri Harris Salleh, and among its former presidents was the current Head of State, Tun Musa Aman. I am the fifth to hold this position,” he said.
During the event, 50 underprivileged recipients received aid.
Hasnol stressed that this group plays an important role in society and, with proper support and guidance from the government and civil groups, can contribute meaningfully to community development.
“In addition to this, we also carry out other community programmes, including assisting victims of floods and natural disasters in Putatan, Penampang and other districts, depending on our capacity and available resources,” he said.
When asked about political matters, Hasnol, who is an Umno Supreme Council Member, reaffirmed his loyalty to Barisan Nasional (BN).
“My party is Barisan Nasional, and I stand with Umno. Whatever we do is to strengthen our party and serve the people under its leadership,” he said.
The Umno Penampang Chief is among those expected to contest in Tanjung Keramat in the state election.
