Call to address waterlogged road in Beaufort
The waterlogged road causes disruption in Beaufort.
BEAUFORT: Authorities are urged to address severe waterlogging along the road near Restoran Barakat Bingkul that leaves motorists soaked during rainfall.

Resident Mohd Johawalia Kimsin said the road floods even after light rain, forcing vehicles to slow down significantly.

“The road looks like it is flooded even though Sungai Padas has not overflowed. All vehicles must move slowly to avoid water splashing,” he told Daily Express on Tuesday.

He said emergency vehicles such as ambulances passing through would create heavy splashes, drenching vehicles with open windows and motorcycle riders carrying passengers.

Kota Kinabalu: KOTA KINABALU: Fiesta Mega Raya (FMR) 2026 is set to be the largest and most prestigious Hari Raya celebration in Sabah, taking place from March 7 to 18, at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), here.
Mohd Johawalia said speeding vehicles at night risk losing control and overturning due to the waterlogged conditions and lack of street lighting in the area.

He called on the Public Works Department (PWD) to ensure concessionaires carry out immediate maintenance and not leave drains unattended.

He also raised concerns about neglected drains in Beaufort Jaya where overgrown grass has blocked drainage, causing water to overflow onto roads.

“We do not know if this is under the PWD or the District Council, but they must take aggressive action to prevent flooding,” he said.

Mohd Johawalia said while Beaufort Jaya has never flooded even during Sungai Padas floods, poorly maintained drains could trigger flash floods.
