LABUAN: A senior assistant medical officer in Labuan has been remanded for four days to assist in an investigation into alleged abuse of power involving a company owned by his wife.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) detained the man, believed to be in his 50s, when he came to give a statement at the MACC office around 5.40pm on Wednesday.
Labuan Magistrate Kasyfurrahman Abang Ahmad granted the remand order until 28 July 2024 following an application by MACC on Thursday.
According to a source, the officer is suspected of awarding forwarding and logistics-related jobs worth about RM20,000 at his workplace in 2023 and 2024 to his wife’s company.
Labuan MACC Director Muhammat Azis Malmod said the case is being investigated under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009.
