KUCHING: AirBorneo is acquiring eight new turboprop aircraft from ATR to upgrade Malaysia’s Rural Air Services network, with delivery scheduled between 2027 and 2029, reported Dayak Daily.
The firm order includes five ATR 72-600 and three ATR 42-600 planes, plus purchase rights for four additional aircraft under a strategic partnership signed in late 2025.

The airline said the new ATR-600 series will form the backbone of a safer and more efficient rural air network across Borneo.
AirBorneo currently operates eight ATR 72-500 planes acquired from MASwings after the Sarawak government took over the airline last year and rebranded it.
The carrier provides essential connectivity for remote communities in Sarawak, Sabah and Labuan.
