PETALING JAYA: A 38-year-old man was remanded for two days until Monday to assist police investigations after a viral video showed children being caned and struck with a chair inside a house here, the New Straits Times and the Malay Mail reported.

District police chief ACP Shamsudin Mamat said the suspect was brought before the court on Sunday following a report lodged by a local resident at 1.21pm a day earlier.

Preliminary investigations found the suspect to be the victims’ paternal uncle, with the incident believed to have occurred after the children, aged between eight and 11, allegedly retaliated against the suspect’s mother.

Police arrested the suspect and seized several items linked to the case after a 35-second video depicting the abuse circulated widely on social media.
