TAWAU: A 102-year-old woman’s body was found floating in Kg Tanjung Batu Laut Log Pond early Friday.
Tawau Fire and Rescue Station Chief Zulbada Alior said the victim, who was identified as Maharia Sake, is believed to have fallen into the pond.
According to him, 11 members including two officers rushed to the scene after receiving a call from Tawau police headquarters at 7.01am to request help to pick up the floating victim.
“We sent a utility vehicle and an EMRS to the location,” he said, adding the victim had been taken up by his family before the team arrived.
Zulbada said the operation ended at 7.47am and the case was handed over to the police for further action.
Tawau District Police Chief ACP Peter Umbuas, when contacted, confirmed the incident.
Staff from the Forensic Unit of the Ministry of Health Malaysia were present at the scene to make a physical examination of the victim before the body was sent to Tawau Hospital.
