Kota Kinabalu: A 29-year-old Pakistani who tried to sell a fake gold bracelet to a goldsmith shop was sentenced to 12 months’ jail, fined RM200 or another week’s jail and one stroke of the rotan.
Javid Inzarujul pleaded guilty before Magistrate Afiq Agoes to attempting to cheat Johamri Santagok by inducing him to buy the fake bracelet at JN Gold & Jewels in Inanam Taipan at 3pm on March 7.
He was charged under Section 420/511 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of between one year and 10 years and whipping and fine, upon conviction.
Unrepresented, Javid requested for a lenient sentence saying that he was the one who is responsible in sending his children to school.
Javid when asked by the court, also said that it was not his intention in committing the offence as he was only helping a friend to sell it and the friend managed to flee when he was arrested at the shop.
The court ordered Javid to be referred to the Immigration Department after serving his sentence.
In another case, a man claimed trial to similar charge.
Norham Akuk was accused of cheating by selling a fake gold jewellery which caused Abdul Samad to give him RM200 at 12.01pm on March 8 at Kg Air, here.
