All local authorities to partake in Tawau fest

TAWAU: State Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Dr Haji Jaujan Haji Sambakong has ordered all 24 local authorities in Sabah to join the Ninth Tawau Inernational Cultural Festival 2020 themed [Budaya Etnik Millenium Era 2020] which will be held at the open space in front of Tawau Municipal Council (MPT) building here from March 18-21.

Tawau Council President Datuk Amrullah Kamal said 30 ethnic groups in Sabah, who have lived in Tawau will participate in the festival besides ethnics from Indonesia and India. He and Deputy President Koh Kian Leong earlier paid a courtesy call on Jaujan.

On March 21, a “Sumazau” welcome dance will be performed from the council field heading to the ‘West Gate’ of Chester Street at 3.45 p.m. An ethnics parade will start from the ‘West Gate’ of Chester Street heading to the MPT building. The night event will kick off at 7.30p.m.

He hoped the mass participation of “Sumazau” welcome dance (a minimum of 3,000 participants) and ethnics’ parade (a minimum of 3,000 participants) could enter “The Malaysia Books of Records.”

According to him, the concept of presentation would be divided into three main segments, which are: (a) Medley new creation dance performance of Ethnic groups in the coastal zone; (b) Medley new creation dance performance of Ethnic groups in the interior zone; and (c) international dance performance (Indonesia and India).
