TENOM: The district is now one of the most visited and promoted destinations. State Infrastructure Development Minister, Datuk Peter Anthony, said, Tenom, known for its coffee and other tourist attractions, would achieve its target as a tourist hub due to the cooperation of all parties, including the District Office and other government agencies.
He said Tenom has the potential to attract tourists as it has many good products from rainforests, natural flora and fauna as well as local fruits.
The district is progressing in tourist attraction products, especially with the cooperation of agencies that have chosen and opened the tourism centre, as well as cleanliness of the district,” he said.
He was speaking at the launch of a map or the scale plan chart in the town field opposite the Tenom Railway Station.
He said when tourists came by train they would see the map guide to make it easier to travel to places of attraction and get to know the place. Peter, who is also Melalap assemblyman, also called on the state Tourism and Environment Ministry to let the District Office administer the Pulong Murut Cultural Centre, which is quite neglected and needs to be managed in order to promote Murut culture in the district soon as possible.
Regarding the cancellation of the proposed Sabah Temporary Pass (PSS), he said the Government was always, responsive to the wishes of the people in Sabah.
“The cancellation of the PSS is a noble effort under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal in meeting the demands and complaints of the people. The people’s voice is very important to us,
“If there is a voice of the people, let alone as a local party, then we will give priority to achieving it,” he said.
Also present was the Political Secretary to the Minister of Infrastructure Development, Jack Jatil, District Officer, Sungkim Rumangun, Community Development Leader for the Melalap state assembly constituency, Nossil Basayuh, ethnic Chinese community chieftains as well as local community leaders.
