KOTA KINABALU: SK Tampulan, Telipok, and SM Lok Yuk Kota Kinabalu were crowned champions in the primary and secondary school categories, respectively, at the Kota Kinabalu-level Short Film Competition of the 2026 Ministry of Education School Acting and Screen Festival (FLLaSH).
The winners were announced during the festival’s closing ceremony held at SK Tampulan on Friday.
Kota Kinabalu District Education Officer Johari @ Jaibet Sabin said the competition serves as an important platform to nurture students’ creativity through the arts, visual storytelling and digital content production.
“This programme not only provides students with an opportunity to showcase their creativity but also helps them develop communication, leadership, teamwork and critical thinking skills that are essential in the digital era,” he said in his closing speech.
He said the festival, themed “Healthy Lifestyle”, attracted entries from primary and secondary schools across the Kota Kinabalu district, with participants producing short films highlighting the importance of adopting healthy living practices.
SK Tampulan, Telipok, clinched the primary school title with a creative and emotionally engaging short film that effectively conveyed the competition’s theme.
In the secondary school category, SM Lok Yuk Kota Kinabalu (CF) emerged victorious with a production praised for its compelling storytelling and effective message delivery.
Meanwhile, SK Tampulan headmistress Zaliha Ismenyah thanked the Kota Kinabalu District Education Office for entrusting the school with hosting the festival.
She said the event’s success was the result of close cooperation among the school administration, teachers, parents and the organising committee.
“We hope this programme will continue to serve as a platform to nurture creative, innovative and competitive young talents, in line with the Ministry of Education’s aspiration to empower students in the arts and creative industry,” she said.
