Esscom operation nets 64 illegal immigrants in Lahad Datu

LAHAD DATU: A total of 64 Indonesian and Filipino illegal immigrants were detained during a two-day integrated operation coordinated by Esscom here that concluded on Thursday.

Esscom Commander Victor Sanjos said 247 individuals were inspected by the Immigration Department, with those arrested for failing to produce valid travel documents being handed over to the Lahad Datu Immigration Department for further action under Sections 15(1)(c) and 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

He said the operation, involving 262 personnel from enforcement agencies and government departments, uncovered offences related to employment, immigration, business licensing, traffic regulations, utility services and customs, resulting in RM623,450 in compounds and seizures, 71 notices and compounds, and two prosecution cases.

Victor said enforcement actions included 11 labour-related compounds and two prosecution cases valued at RM133,000, traffic summonses and compounds, a district council compound and seizure of unlicensed goods, customs seizures worth about RM30,000, and action against illegal electricity connections and unauthorised utility usage.
