Kota Kinabalu: Two people were charged in the Magistrate’s Court here with trafficking 255.34g of cannabis.
No plea was recorded from Firdaus Abdul Kassim, 41, and Khadijah Alam, 37, when the charge was read before Magistrate Dzul Elmy Yunus.

They were jointly accused of trafficking the drug at 4.05pm on June 4, this year, in front of a house at Rabbit Garden, Lok Kawi, Putatan.
The charge, framed under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, carries the death penalty or life imprisonment and, if not sentenced to death, a minimum of 15 strokes of the cane, on conviction.
The prosecution applied another mention date pending the chemist’s report and offered no bail as the offence is non-bailable.
Dzul Elmy fixed July 23 for mention and ordered both accused to be further remanded pending the chemist’s report.
In a separate case, a 35-year-old man claimed trial to a charge of causing hurt to his wife.
Mohd Noor Ameen T Jeman pleaded not guilty to voluntarily causing injury to his 43-year-old wife, at 6pm on March 4, this year, at the parking area in front of a house at Kg Petagas, Penampang.
The offence is punishable under Section 323 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 326A of the same Code.
Section 323 provides for imprisonment of up to one year, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, upon conviction.
Section 326A provides for a jail term of up to twice the maximum period prescribed for the offence where hurt is caused to a spouse, former spouse, child, disabled adult or other family member.
The court fixed July 23 for pre-trial case management.
