SANDAKAN: A 33-year-old man was charged with four counts of trafficking three underage girls aged 15, 16 and 17, as well as a 30-year-old woman, for the purpose of sexual exploitation.
However, no plea was recorded from Chu Nyuk Sheng, after the four charges were read before Magistrate Nur Faezah Jafry.
His plea would be recorded at the Sessions Court as the charge is under its jurisdiction .
On the first to third counts, Chu is accused of trafficking the girls at a hotel in Sandakan town on May 14 at about 10.45pm.
On the fourth count, he allegedly trafficked the woman at a hotel in Bandar Leila, here, on the same day at about 10.15pm.
Chu was charged under Section 14(1) of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 (Act 670) carries a jail of between five years and life imprisonment, and whipping, on conviction.
Faezah fixed June 15 for further mention of the case at the Sessions Court.
No bail was allowed pending the disposal of the case.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Ong Teik Yi appeared for the prosecution while Chu was unrepresented.
