Kota Kinabalu: A 22-year-old cook who was charged with raping his cousin’s wife, was denied bail on Thursday.
Sessions Court Judge Zaini Fishir rejected the man’s bail application when its case was brought up to hear the application.
The court set June 26 for pre-trial case management and ordered the man to be remanded further pending the disposal of his case.
The man is accused of raping the 21-year-old woman at 4.30am on May 16 this year at a house in Jalan Inobong Putaton Bansadon, Penampang.
The offence under section 376(1) of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 20 years, and whipping, on conviction.
In previous hearing, the man pleaded not guilty to the charge against him and no bail was offered to him. Deputy Public Prosecutor Fazriel Fardiansyah Abdul Kadir appeared for the prosecution.
Meanwhile in another court, a Filipino and a China national were fined for overstaying in the State and entering the State illegally, respectively.
The duo admitted separately before Sessions Court Judge Hurman Hussain, after the charges were read to them.
For the China man, he was fined RM10,000 in default six months’ jail for staying in the State after his travel pass had expired.
The Filipino was fined RM4,000 or spend four months in prison for illegally staying in the State without any travel document.
They were detained in the city during an operation conducted by the Immigration Department recently.
After paying the fines or serving jail sentences, the duo was ordered referred to the Immigration Department for deportation purposes.
