Sunrise beamed against the majestic Mount Kinabalu, which in silent, whispers many a story throughout the ages.
RANAU: Eleven years have passed since the devastating earthquake struck Ranau and Mount Kinabalu on the morning of June 5, 2015, but the memories of that tragic day remain deeply etched in the hearts of Sabahans and people around the world.

At 7.15am on that fateful Friday, a magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck Ranau district, the strongest to hit Malaysia in decades.

The tremor lasted only seconds, yet its impact would forever change lives, reshape parts of Mount Kinabalu and leave an enduring legacy of resilience, courage and remembrance.

The earthquake triggered massive rockfalls near the summit of Mount Kinabalu, where hundreds of climbers were making their ascent.
