KUDAT: Five people were injured following a collision involving five vehicles at Jalan Kampung Kandawayon recently.
The victims included three occupants of a Perodua Axia — two men aged 24 and 33 and a 49-year-old woman — and two men, aged 24 and 26, who were travelling in a grey Perodua Myvi.
Kudat Fire and Rescue Station Chief Darickson Galanang said they received an emergency call at 12.39am.
“A team of six personnel, led by Martini Asangki, were dispatched to the scene some 30 kilometres away,” he said.
The accident involved a Perodua Axia, a Proton, a Toyota Revo and two Perodua Myvi (grey and blue).
Darickson added that while five individuals sustained injuries, the drivers of the Toyota Revo, the blue Perodua Myvi, and the Proton escaped unhurt.
All injured victims were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Kudat District Police Chief Supt Mohd Haris Ibrahim said preliminary investigations showed that the Perodua Myvi, driven by a 27-year-old local man, was travelling from Kudat Hospital toward Kampung Timug with his mother.
“Upon arriving at KM28 of Jalan Kudat-Kota Kinabalu, which is a curved section of the road, a Perodua Axia coming from the opposite direction is believed to have entered the victims’ lane. This resulted in a head-on collision,” he said.
The impact caused injuries to both drivers and two passengers involved in the primary collision.
