Kota Kinabalu: Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) President Datuk Chin Su Phin
(pic) urged all political parties to adopt a more constructive and responsible approach towards Sabah’s long-standing PTI and stateless children issues, saying the matter could no longer remain unresolved indefinitely.
Responding to a recent newspaper report titled “Action urged on stateless issue, MyKAS proposal”, Chin said the issue should be approached with seriousness, maturity and practical thinking instead of becoming another prolonged political dispute.
He said any Government proposal involving temporary documentation mechanisms, including MyKAS or temporary registration cards, should first be evaluated based on its merits and objectives rather than being rejected automatically for political reasons.
Chin said regulated documentation mechanisms did not automatically grant citizenship or voting rights, but instead functioned as a system to identify, monitor and regulate undocumented populations more effectively while improving enforcement, security monitoring and administrative management in Sabah.
He also called on Opposition parties, NGOs and relevant stakeholders to engage constructively with the Government by proposing better safeguards, stronger enforcement measures or alternative solutions, adding that Sabahans expected leaders to prioritise long-term stability, governance and practical solutions for the State’s future.
