For many people, retirement is often seen as a personal milestone, a time to slow down, spend more time with family and enjoy the fruits of decades of hard work.
Yet when thousands of people retire within the same period, retirement becomes more than an individual experience. It becomes a demographic transformation with far-reaching implications for society, the economy and public policy.

Today, Sabah remains one of Malaysia’s youngest states. According to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM), Sabah recorded a median age of 27 years in 2025, with youth aged 15 to 30 years making up the highest proportion in Malaysia at 33.8pc.
