Kota Kinabalu: Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Publicity Chief Nicholas Ban has lodged a police report over the circulation of false social media posts linking the party to the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal.
Nicholas said the report was lodged together with LDP Youth Chief Loong Kok Seng and several Youth members after the party discovered fake social media accounts and posts allegedly aimed at misleading the public and tarnishing LDP’s reputation.
He said the allegations were baseless as the matter had already been resolved through legal proceedings and a High Court ruling in 2019.
According to him, the High Court accepted LDP’s explanations and evidence, ordered the lifting of a freeze on the party’s bank account and returned most of the frozen funds, confirming that the money had no connection to 1MDB.
Nicholas said certain parties were attempting to revive the issue by distorting facts and spreading false narratives despite the matter having been settled years ago.
He described the dissemination of false and defamatory information as irresponsible and warned that LDP would take legal action against individuals or parties that continue to publish, share or circulate such content.
“We reserve the right to pursue all available legal remedies against those who seek to defame the party or mislead the public,” he said in a statement here, Saturday.
Nicholas urged the public to verify information before sharing content on social media and reminded them that the facts had already been established through the court process.
He said those who continue to spread false and misleading allegations should be prepared to face legal consequences.
Nicholas said LDP would continue to defend its reputation and remain committed to serving the people with integrity, transparency and accountability.
