TAMPARULI: A man was seriously injured after a 10-tonne lorry carrying cooking oil skidded and overturned at Kampung Minangkop along Jalan Tamparuli-Ranau around midday Saturday.
Tuaran Fire and Rescue Station Chief Kurong Ak Beki said the department received an emergency call and deployed nine personnel and two fire engines to the scene.
Firefighters arrived at 12.46pm and found the lorry had veered off the road before overturning on the roadside shoulder.
“The male victim sustained serious injuries and was extricated by members of the public before the arrival of the fire and rescue team,” he said when contacted.
Kurong said firefighters provided initial treatment before the victim was transported to Tuaran Hospital via the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit for further treatment.
He added that the team carried out clean-up works to remove spilled cooking oil from the road using hose reel equipment to ensure the area was safe for other road users.
“The operation was brought under control at 12.57pm and fully concluded at 1.10pm after confirming there were no further hazards at the scene,” he said.
He said the cause of the accident and estimated losses are still under investigation.
