Kota Kinabalu: Police are tracking the driver of a black Toyota Hilux believed to have been involved in a fatal hit-and-run accident that killed a pedestrian along Jalan Sepanggar near Kampung Sepakat Jaya on Friday, said acting City police chief Supt Syed Lot Syed Ab Rahman.
He said preliminary investigations found the incident occurred at about 4.25pm when the 69-year-old victim was believed to have been crossing the road from right to left towards the Indah Permai area before being struck by the vehicle travelling in the left lane.
He said the victim was thrown onto the road shoulder and was pronounced dead at the scene at 4.56pm by medical personnel from Hospital Likas, while the driver was believed to have fled after the accident.
He said the body was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Forensic Department for a post-mortem, and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, while those with information are urged to contact investigating officer Insp Brymenedren Godon at 010-7768802 or the nearest police station.
