Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Tennis Association (STA) said while the achievements of Yuna Koh and others are praiseworthy, it’s time to turn attention to the poor condition of tennis courts in Sabah.
The Likas Sports Complex, once the training ground for many aspiring players has fallen into disrepair and urgently requires refurbishment, said STA President Dr Terrence Soong.
He said without proper infrastructure, it would be difficult to sustain the momentum of rising talents.
He called on the Sabah Sports Council and the State Ministry of Youth Development, Sports Advancement and Creative Economy to prioritise upgrading the Likas courts this year and to build new facilities in districts such as Kota Belud, Kuala Penyu and Semporna.
These initiatives, he said, are crucial in discovering new talents and expanding tennis across the State.
Despite these challenges, STA continues to nurture promising athletes, proving that passion and perseverance can overcome limitations.

“Yuna’s success is not only her personal triumph but also a proof to the resilience of Sabah’s tennis community, which remains steadfast in its mission to elevate the sport and produce future champions,” he said.
