Man fined for damaging ex-wife’s vacuum cleaner
The offence under Section 427 of the Penal Code provides a jail term of not less than one year, or a fine, or both, on conviction.
Kota Kinabalu: A 49-year-old man was fined RM1,200 or eight months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court for committing mischief by damaging his ex-wife’s vacuum cleaner.

John Chin pleaded guilty to kicking and damaging a vacuum cleaner belonging to one Ruhifah @ Nurul Fatihah Mokol, causing losses amounting to RM290, at a unit, at Taman Penampang, Penampang, at about 9.15am on May 11.

The court heard from the prosecution that Chin became enraged and smashed glasses and kicked the complainant’s vacuum cleaner, causing damage to it.

Meanwhile, a 46-year-old man was fined RM1,500 or one month’s jail for buying illegal public lottery tickets.

Choy Kock Onn admitted to buy four illegal public lottery tickets behind the five-foot way of a restaurant in Putatan town, Penampang, at about 12.30pm on Feb 5.

The offence under Section 9(1) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 carries a fine of up to RM5,000 or a jail term of up to six months or both, on conviction.

The prosecution informed the court that a police team conducting “Ops Dadu” at the location arrested Choy after finding several items used in illegal public lottery activities during a body search.

In another case, a 38-year-old woman claimed trial to having stolen property.

Elizabeth Tinggi pleaded not guilty to having a Perodua rim with tyre belonging to one Aldam Hirin,  at a house in Kg Pandamali, Tuaran, at about 3pm on May 10.

The charge under Section 411 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of between six months and five years, or a fine, or both, on conviction.

The court set July 9 for pre-trial case management and released the accused on bail of RM1,300 in two sureties.
