KOTA MARUDU: A teenager with disabilities was killed in a fire at Kampung Torintidon here early Wednesday morning while his elder brother suffered severe burns attempting to save him.
District police chief Supt Simiun Lomudin said the 3am incident claimed the life of 16-year-old Lorex Sindam, whose body was found burnt, while his brother, Razani Sindam, 28, sustained burns to almost his entire body.

He said initial investigations found that four family members were inside the house at the time, comprising the parents and their two sons.
According to Simiun, the father, identified as Sindam Tarintim, noticed sparks coming from the house electrical meter box at about 2am before the fire suddenly spread rapidly to the living room and engulfed the house.
He said Razani attempted to rescue Lorex, who had Down syndrome and autism, but failed, resulting in severe burns to himself, while the victim’s body was later taken to Kota Marudu Hospital for a post-mortem, and Razani would be transferred to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for further treatment.
